2006 August 172Don’t worry – this blog is not about Sock Monkeys day in and day out, but indulge me for just a moment and let me tell you why “Sock Monkey”…

See that monkey, there is in corner?   That’s George. (The adorable little jammie-wearer is me.) George was a loyal friend, and I’m convinced that if every kid had a sock monkey, the world would be a better place.

George’s stuffing is of the old foam variety, and decades ago turned crunchy.  Hold him too long now, and little bits of George rain softly out upon your lap.  But even in his age and decay, he is priceless: he holds the key to my childhood memories: every happy moment sees him quietly there in the corner, dutifully waiting for the the thunder to crash, and the small, quick hands to reach for the sublime security of his encircling arms.

Like I said – every kid needs a sock monkey.

  1. Renee, I LOVE your blog. You might even get me to try some of your vegan recipes. Your nutty falafel reminds me of my favorite spot in Old Fair Oaks, CA. (just out of Sacramento) called the “Sunflower Drive-in”. A tacky looking walk up shack with the most fantastic Nutty Tacos and Falafel. Much missed after I moved to Oregon!!
